Alabi v. State
In this case, the accused was arrested for armed robbery and was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment by the trial court (the appellant testified that he went to rob, but he did not carry any weapon and did not steal anything). The Supreme Court held that an accused person can be convicted solely on confessional statement. With the evidence and confessional statement given, it is clearly establishing that there was attempted robbery involving the use of cutlass or matchet by the appellant. Thus, the 1st and 2nd ingredients of attempted armed robbery were proved beyond reasonable doubt.
